A Marange woman, Idah Mushayi, 27, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison for violently assaulting her 11-year-old daughter. The sentence, handed down by the court, includes six months suspended on condition of good behavior and the remaining six months suspended on condition that she completes 240 hours of community service at Chiwereweshe Primary School in Marange.

The disturbing incident came to light after a video circulated on social media showing Mushayi assaulting her daughter, who had her hands and legs tied. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) launched an investigation, leading to Mushayi’s arrest on November 13, 2025, at Village 28, Mount Zonzwe, under Chief Marange in Odzi.

Mushayi’s sentence reflects the court’s consideration of her actions and the need for rehabilitation. The community service component aims to reintegrate her into society while ensuring she understands the gravity of her offense.
