A 19-year-old man from Moneni village in Mangwe has been placed on remand after allegedly committing an act of bestiality and later fleeing from police custody.
Mxolisi Ncube appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware, who remanded him in custody until 30 December 2025 pending trial. He is facing two charges: bestiality and escaping from lawful detention.
The State, represented by prosecutor Sheila Nyathi, told the court that the incident occurred on the night of 8 December 2025 at around 10pm. It is alleged that the complainant, Dumoluhle Mnkandla, discovered Ncube inside a goat enclosure engaging in a sexual act with a female goat. Ncube was apprehended at the scene and subsequently handed over to the police.
The following day, while being held in police cells, Ncube reportedly asked officers for water. When the cell door was opened, he allegedly shoved one of the officers aside and made his escape.
Police later tracked him down and re-arrested him on 18 December. He remains in custody awaiting trial.
