Livestock Deaths Raise Alarm Over Safety at Movis Mine in Gokwe

Residents from Machengere, Taruzeza, Krima, and surrounding areas are growing increasingly concerned as their livestock continue to die under suspicious circumstances linked to Movis Mine in Gokwe. Community members allege that unsafe mining practices are to blame for the loss of cattle, goats, and donkeys.

Since the mine began operations, locals report that no protective fencing was installed around the site. This negligence has allowed animals to wander into the mining area, where exposure to toxic substances such as cyanide may be causing their deaths. Just yesterday, December 8, 2025, three cows belonging to one resident succumbed, adding to an alarming number of livestock fatalities.

Despite repeated complaints to local leaders, no action has been taken to address the issue. The affected communities , including Machengere, Taruzeza, Krima, Sotile, Cheza, Mahachi, and Mugudhura , are now urgently calling on authorities and MP Tawanda Karikoga to intervene. They demand that the mine secure its perimeter to prevent further animal deaths.

Residents warn that without immediate measures, livestock losses will continue to escalate, threatening their livelihoods and the wellbeing of the community.
