Kaitano Tembo Joins Zimbabwe National Team as Assistant Coach Amid Controversy

Former SuperSport United and Sekhukhune United coach Kaitano Tembo has been appointed assistant coach of the Zimbabwe national football team, the Warriors, a squad notably featuring a strong presence of players from Scotland FC, sparking some debate.

The announcement was made on Tuesday alongside the release of the squad selected for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and Rwanda. Tembo, a former Warriors player and popular figure among fans, is currently without a club and is set to join the national team during the next international break. His appointment came on the recommendation of head coach Michael Nees.

In the latest squad, Scotland-based midfielder Khama Billiat returns after missing the previous international fixtures, while Finland-based midfielder Prosper Padera and Greece-based striker Tino Kadewere have been left out.

Tembo’s addition to the coaching staff is expected to strengthen the team’s technical expertise, offering valuable support and mentorship to both seasoned veterans and emerging talents as Zimbabwe gears up for these crucial qualifiers.
