Journalist’s Life Hangs in the Balance

Blessed Mhlanga, a prominent journalist, fights for his life behind bars. Two months of detention have taken a devastating toll on his health, leaving him bedridden and sparking widespread concern.

Heart and Soul TV, Mhlanga’s employer, has issued an urgent call to action, urging people to speak out and demand justice. His prolonged detention has raised serious questions about the treatment of journalists and the human cost of imprisonment. The organization is calling on the international community to pressure the authorities to provide Mhlanga with adequate medical care and to ensure his safety while in custody.

Mhlanga’s health issues began in March when he developed a fever that left him weak. Despite his lawyer’s concerns, his condition has continued to deteriorate. The lack of adequate medical care and harsh prison conditions have exacerbated his situation. Mhlanga’s lawyer, Chris Mhike, has expressed deep concerns over his client’s health, stating that the prison conditions are taking a severe toll on Mhlanga’s well-being.

Mhlanga was arrested on February 24 and charged with sharing messages alleged to incite violence or property damage. The charges stem from interviews he conducted with exiled war veteran Blessed Geza. Many have questioned the legitimacy of the charges, arguing that they are an attempt to silence Mhlanga’s journalistic work.

As Mhlanga’s health hangs precariously in the balance, the international community watches with growing unease. The Committee to Protect Journalists and other human rights organizations have expressed concern over Mhlanga’s detention and the treatment of journalists in the country. Will he survive the ordeal, or will his health succumb to the stress and neglect? The outcome remains uncertain, but one thing is clear ,his case highlights the importance of protecting journalists’ rights and ensuring that they are able to carry out their work without fear of persecution. The world is watching.
