ZAMBIA’S President Hakainde Hichilema arrived in Harare yesterday, marking a significant milestone in Zimbabwe-Zambia relations. The Zambian leader is leading a high-powered delegation for the inaugural session of the Zimbabwe-Zambia Bi-National Commission (BNC) at the Harare International Conference Centre.
The BNC upgrades the existing Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation, providing a platform for top-level political oversight and cooperation between the two nations. Key focus areas include trade, power generation, transport networks, infrastructure development, and social, cultural, and political spheres.
The meeting aims to accelerate joint projects, leveraging Zimbabwe and Zambia’s shared history, culture, and economic ties. President Hichilema’s visit is his first official trip to Zimbabwe since taking office in 2021, demonstrating Zambia’s commitment to regional cooperation and economic diplomacy.
Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Frederick Shava, welcomed President Hichilema, highlighting the long-standing relations between the two countries. The BNC is expected to drive economic growth, create jobs, and improve the lives of citizens in both countries.
