Two more people—a 55-year-old woman and a six-month-old infant—have been brutally murdered in Guruve, pushing the death toll linked to a suspected serial killer in the area to ten over the past few weeks.
Police have identified 32-year-old villager Anymore Zvitsva as the prime suspect. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has offered a reward for information leading to his arrest.
ZRP spokesperson Paul Nyathi confirmed the latest killings in a statement issued on Friday. He said the police are investigating the murder of an elderly woman and an infant at Farm 88, Nyakapupu, Guruve, on 18 December 2025. The victims were found with multiple head injuries, and further details will be released in due course.
The latest incident follows a horrific attack on 11 December in which five members of the Zvitsva family were killed at Ona Mapeto Farm in Ward 21, Guruve. The victims were identified as 66-year-old Grace Zvitsva, her 40-year-old son Tendai Zvitsva, 37-year-old Loice Chiringaushe, and Loice’s two children—five-year-old Takudzwa Kariva and two-year-old Tatenda Chirenje.
According to The Herald, Tendai, a divorced father of three, had been prevented from returning to his homestead on the day of the attack because he was intoxicated.
Family spokesperson Never Gwaze said the suspect, a nephew within the family, had longstanding grudges against some of the victims stemming from earlier disputes. He said tensions escalated during a traditional Shona ceremony, “kuendesa mombe yeumai,” which Grace had travelled to Vheremu Village to perform.
Gwaze alleged that around midnight, Anymore and several accomplices descended on the homestead, tying doors shut with wire. A young relative, Marvelous Kwaipa, reportedly attempted to flee but was struck on the hand with an axe. The family sought refuge at the village head’s homestead, but fear prevented immediate assistance.
Gwaze further claimed that Grace had previously identified Anymore during a citizen’s arrest at Nyatsanza Mountain over maize theft, an incident that allegedly fuelled the suspect’s anger and desire for revenge.
Community concerns have intensified after reports that seven suspects, including Anymore Zvitsva, were apprehended by locals at Nyatsanza Mountain but later released by Guruve police, a move that has angered residents.
Before the attack on the Zvitsva homestead, Anymore is also alleged to have murdered Pamela Chipangura, 39, and her two children, Kudzai and Tawanda, in Zimuna Village.
Police continue to urge members of the public to provide any credible information that may assist in the suspect’s arrest.
