Watsomba Butchery Operator Nabbed in Alleged Stock Theft Case
Police have arrested a Watsomba Business Centre butchery operator and two other suspects in connection with the alleged theft of a bull belonging to a 75-year-old woman.
The suspects have been identified as Farai Patika (45), Takunda Banda (29) and Dunnmore Kahlari (32). They are accused of stealing the animal from Jannet Nyamafene, who reported the matter after discovering that her bull had disappeared from her kraal during the night.
Investigations gained momentum after police received an anonymous tip-off indicating that the stolen animal was being kept near one of the suspects’ residences. Officers later recovered a black bull tied to a tree approximately 100 metres from Takunda Banda’s homestead.
Police also discovered several animal bones in the vicinity, raising suspicion that the area may have been used for illegal slaughtering activities. Authorities say this finding has linked the suspects to a series of unresolved stock theft cases in the area.
Banda, who is employed as a domestic worker, was the first to be arrested. During interrogation, he allegedly implicated Patika, the butchery owner, who was subsequently taken into custody. Further inquiries led to the arrest of Dunnmore Kahlari.
The recovered bull was positively identified by its owner. Police say investigations are continuing, with the suspects also being questioned in relation to other incidents involving the deboning of stolen cattle.
