A 27-year-old man from Gokwe North has been sentenced to an effective four years in prison after stabbing a fellow villager whom he accused of having an affair with his wife.
Khulekhani Kangazane of Magama Village, under Chief Chireya in the Midlands Province, was convicted of assault following a violent confrontation that took place on New Year’s Day.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority, the incident occurred at around 7pm on 1 January 2026 at Sandura Business Centre. Kangazane confronted the 24-year-old complainant, accusing him of being romantically involved with his wife.
What began as a verbal dispute quickly escalated into violence. During the argument, Kangazane produced an okapi knife and stabbed the victim twice in the back and once on the left middle finger.
The injured man managed to escape and later reported the matter to the police, leading to Kangazane’s arrest.
The court sentenced Kangazane to five years’ imprisonment, with one year suspended on condition of good behaviour. He will therefore serve four years behind bars.
The case serves as a warning against resorting to violence in domestic disputes, with the courts reaffirming that personal grievances do not justify criminal conduct.
