A 55-year-old Geography teacher from Makoni Secondary School in rural Masvingo has appeared in court facing an assault charge following an alleged altercation at a local business centre.
Tanyongana Runatsa is accused of assaulting fellow villager Tawanda Chateuka (56) during a beer-drinking session at Chatikobo Business Centre, under Chief Murinye, on September 13, 2025, at around 3pm.
According to prosecutor Godknows Mugondo, the two men were drinking together when Chateuka reportedly asked Runatsa what Geography is. The question allegedly angered the teacher, who is said to have struck Chateuka above the right eye with a walking crutch.
Chateuka sustained injuries and later reported the matter to the police.
Runatsa appeared before Masvingo Magistrate Caroline Tafira Nyoni, where he was formally charged with assault.
