Phil Foden is set to extend his stay at Manchester City after reaching an agreement in principle on a new four-year contract that will keep him at the Etihad until 2030, with the option of an additional year.
The 25-year-old’s current deal was due to expire next summer, but the new agreement underlines City’s long-term faith in one of their most important homegrown talents. Despite a dip in form — with no goals since December — both player and club are clearly committed to continuing their journey together.
Foden, who made his debut at just 17 under Pep Guardiola, has already built an impressive legacy at the club, making over 350 appearances and winning multiple major honours, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League.
His recent struggles have raised questions about his role in the team, especially with competition from attacking talents like Jeremy Doku, but support remains strong. Wayne Rooney has insisted Foden should be a regular starter, praising his intelligence, movement, and creativity.
The new deal also comes at an important moment for Foden internationally, as he looks to secure his place in England national team manager Thomas Tuchel’s squad ahead of the upcoming World Cup.
With Manchester City still chasing the Premier League title and competing on multiple fronts, Foden will be hoping this contract signals not just stability — but a return to his best form at a crucial stage of his career.
