President Mnangagwa and First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa recently hosted a warm and joyful gathering for their grandchildren and extended family, blending festive celebration with lessons centred on values, unity and love.
The family get-together highlighted the importance of nurturing the next generation through guidance, care and togetherness, while reinforcing the need to raise children free from hatred, division and harmful influences.
Held at Zimbabwe House, the occasion transformed the historic residence into a welcoming space filled with laughter, reflection and family bonding, as tradition and celebration came together.
Taking a moment away from the festivities, President Mnangagwa, who is currently on annual leave, spent time with his grandsons, sharing words of wisdom on discipline, respect and responsibility. Drawing from African values and the philosophy of ubuntu, he reminded them that real strength lies in caring for others and making choices that uplift both family and community.
The boys listened attentively, responding with nods, smiles and curiosity, clearly absorbing both the guidance and the example set by their grandfather.
Elsewhere, the First Lady gathered her granddaughters and spoke gently about dignity, personal development and strong moral values. She addressed topics such as personal hygiene, menstrual health, the risks of early relationships and the importance of prioritising education.
Through personal stories and everyday examples, Dr Mnangagwa emphasised kindness, responsibility and the value of doing household tasks with care, noting that such acts strengthen family bonds.
The children engaged actively, asking questions, reflecting on the lessons shared and enjoying moments of laughter that showed both understanding and appreciation.
As the formal guidance gave way to celebration, the atmosphere shifted to light-hearted fun. The grandchildren played games, exchanged stories and enjoyed each other’s company, filling the rooms with energy and laughter.
Mealtime further reinforced the spirit of togetherness, as family members gathered around shared dishes, animated conversations and playful recollections of the day’s lessons.
As the evening drew to a close, carols echoed through Zimbabwe House, leaving behind a sense of warmth and lasting connection. The residence stood not only as a symbol of national heritage, but as a family home where love, tradition and ubuntu were passed on through lived experience.
The gathering ensured that the grandchildren and extended family departed with cherished memories, renewed values and a deep sense of unity that will endure well beyond the festive season.
