Crawley sign Pompey keeper Steward on loan

Crawley Town have signed Portsmouth goalkeeper Toby Steward on an emergency seven-day loan.

The 20-year-old has already spent parts of this season on loan at National League South club Tonbridge Angels and National League outfit Wealdstone, making 18 appearances in total.

Steward becomes the Red Devils’ third emergency goalkeeper to arrive at the Broadfield Stadium in the past month, following seven-day loan moves for Hull City’s Timothee Lo-Tutala and Bolton’s Luke Hutchinson.

With three senior goalkeepers all unavailable to Crawley boss Scott Lindsey, Steward is expected to start against League One champions Birmingham City at St Andrew’s on Good Friday.

Relegation-threatened Crawley have been unable to name a goalkeeper on their bench since the 4-3 defeat at Bolton Wanderers on 8 February.

They currently sit 22nd in League Two, six points from safety with four matches remaining.
