Cop Caught in Brutality Scandal

A Police Zimbabwe officer stationed in Ruwa is at the center of a controversy after allegedly beating a suspect to death in a bid to extort a bribe. Constable Prince Ndavambi, 39, is accused of assaulting Blessed Believe Juruvenge, 30, who died after being brutally beaten at the police station.

Juruvenge was arrested on May 27, 2025, after a report of assault and theft was made against him. According to the police memo, Ndavambi detained Juruvenge and his sister, Melisa Manyepa, and subjected them to severe physical abuse, demanding a refund of $100 and an additional $100 for their release.

Ndavambi’s alleged assault on Juruvenge continued until the victim became unconscious. Despite his condition, Ndavambi dragged Juruvenge into a cell. Later, when a cell check was conducted, it was noted that Juruvenge was having trouble talking and breathing. He was eventually taken to Ruwa Rehabilitation Centre, where he passed away on May 28, 2025.

The incident has sparked outrage, and an investigation is underway. Juruvenge’s body remains at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals mortuary awaiting another postmortem after relatives disputed the initial results. The case highlights concerns about police brutality and corruption in Zimbabwe.
