Zanu-PF Treasurer-General Patrick Chinamasa, a seasoned figure within the party and former Secretary for Legal Affairs, has expressed strong support for the decision to annul Dr. Paul Tungwarara’s contentious appointment to the party’s Central Committee. Chinamasa described the move to reverse the co-option as both necessary and overdue.
This action follows a letter dated 11 December 2025 from National Political Commissar Munyaradzi Machacha to Manicaland Provincial Chair T. Mukodza, officially rescinding Tungwarara’s inclusion, which had initially been approved by the Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) on 7 December 2023. The appointment had sparked controversy due to concerns about procedural irregularities, prompting internal party examination.
Chinamasa affirmed that Machacha’s intervention was fully justified and consistent with Zanu-PF’s constitutional framework. “I fully endorse Cde Machacha’s decision for the reasons stated and beyond,” he said.
Using a familiar figurative expression, Chinamasa hinted that the irregularities were clear to those paying attention. “Those who have eyes should see, and those who have ears should hear. We cannot ignore what we have observed and heard,” he remarked, emphasizing that the situation was self-evident.
