A fiery debate has erupted between former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa and prominent journalist Hopewell Chin’ono over the role of God in elections. The exchange began when Chamisa posted on social media, claiming that his father had assured him that a new Zimbabwe was imminent, citing divine intervention.
Chin’ono swiftly responded, dismissing the idea that God intervenes in elections. “After Malawi and Zimbabwe, I think Africans should finally understand that God does not involve himself in elections,” he said. Chin’ono emphasized that elections are about leadership quality, organization, strategy, and the will of the people, rather than divine intervention.
Chin’ono also criticized politicians for hiding behind the pulpit and selling false hope to citizens. “Politicians hide their incompetence behind the pulpit, selling hope they know will never materialize,” he said. He urged Africans to demand accountability, strategy, and real leadership rather than relying on divine intervention.
This exchange is not the first time Chamisa and Chin’ono have clashed. The two have had a strained relationship, with Chin’ono previously accusing Chamisa of having ties with powerful military figures that could lead to the country’s downfall if he were to become president. Chamisa had also blocked Chin’ono on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), although it appears that Chamisa had previously unblocked him .
As the nation looks towards the future, the exchange between Chamisa and Chin’ono serves as a reminder of the importance of critical thinking and demanding real leadership.
