Car Con Artist Caught- Evans Nzara’s Wild Ride

In a bizarre tale of deceit and automotive shenanigans, 28-year-old customs clearing agent Evans Nzara found himself in hot water after allegedly swindling a civil servant out of a whopping US$15,700. The scam? A botched vehicle import deal that left the victim, Hamufari Mugauri, driving around in circles.

Nzara, with a smile as wide as the Zambezi River, promised Mugauri a shiny 2014 Toyota Hilux single cab. But what he delivered was a 2010 model, deregistered in South Africa, and with a fake customs receipt to boot! Talk about a lemon.

The drama unfolded when Mugauri discovered the car’s true identity and Nzara’s web of lies. The accused allegedly pocketed the US$15,700, using it for purposes unknown. But justice caught up with him in January, thanks to a clever trap set by detectives.

Now, Nzara faces the music, charged with fraud and remanded to June 24 for trial. Will he ‘fess up to his misdeeds, or will he keep on spinning?
