A Mother’s Unthinkable Act: A Tale of Despair and Shame

In the small community of Siabuwa, Matabeleland North, a heart-wrenching incident has left residents reeling in shock and horror. A 23-year-old mother, Melody Mwiinde, allegedly took the life of her own 6-year-old daughter, citing unbearable ridicule and shame as the reason behind her heinous act.

According to police reports, Mwiinde allegedly hanged her daughter from a tree branch using an electrical cable on April 23, 2025, at Mujimba 9, Siabuwa. The lifeless body was then dumped in a disused hut, a grim discovery that would soon lead to Mwiinde’s arrest.

In a chilling confession, Mwiinde reportedly claimed that she was driven to commit the atrocity because people in the community were mocking her for keeping a disabled child. The child’s father had allegedly disowned the young girl, leaving Mwiinde to bear the weight of caring for a child with special needs.
