Man Jailed For Failing To Pay Child Maintenance

A 47-year-old man from Bulawayo has been sentenced to 10 months in prison for failing to pay US$840 in child maintenance arrears. Bonginkosi Sibanda was ordered to pay US$60 monthly to his ex-wife for their child’s upkeep but defaulted over 14 months.

Bulawayo magistrate Itai Kagwere jailed Sibanda for contravening a maintenance court order, suspending four months of the sentence on condition of good behaviour and the remaining six months on condition he pays the arrears by December 19.

Sibanda had made some payments, including full payments for March and September 2024 and January, September, and October 2025, as well as partial payments for April 2024 and May 2025, but failed to pay for the remaining months.
