
A 38-year-old man, Phillip Mutasa, has been arrested in connection with the murder and robbery of prominent Ruwa businessman Joseph Mutangadura. The incident occurred on August 17, 2025, at Mutangadura’s farm along Dunstan Road in Ruwa, where a gang of masked robbers stormed the property, overpowered a security guard, and shot Mutangadura in the stomach.
Mutasa was apprehended in Mkoba 6, Gweru, on October 3, following a tip-off linking him to the crime. He allegedly confessed to taking part in the attack and named seven accomplices who remain at large. The police are now conducting a nationwide manhunt for the suspects .
Detectives from CID Homicide Harare are leading the investigation, and roadblocks have been set up in several parts of the country to track down the suspects. The police have urged members of the public with any information to come forward, stressing that the gang remains armed and dangerous.
Mutangadura, 67, was a well-known entrepreneur who owned Mutangaz Hideout, Mutangaz Panyama, and Lisheen Estate in Ruwa. His death has sent shockwaves through the community, with many paying tribute to his generosity and entrepreneurial spirit .
The police have reiterated their commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice and have urged the public to cooperate with the investigation. Commissioner Paul Nyathi has appealed for information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects, emphasizing that every detail, no matter how small, could prove crucial.
